OpenNairobi · Nairobi County
Terms of use
Last updated 19 October 2026
These terms govern your use of OpenNairobi — the map, chat, forms, and related interfaces for reporting and tracking local public-service issues in Nairobi County. By using the service, you agree to these terms.
What OpenNairobi is
OpenNairobi is a civic technology project. It helps residents report gaps in public services, upvote neighbourhood priorities, and see public status updates from authorized officers. It complements official county processes; it does not replace them or create a parallel government.
Acceptable use
You agree to:
- Submit truthful reports about real places and conditions.
- Keep descriptions relevant to public infrastructure or services.
- Respect others — no harassment, threats, or doxxing.
- Avoid spam, duplicate pins meant to game attention, or automated abuse.
- Only upload images you have the right to share, and avoid indecent or illegal content.
We may hide or remove content that violates these terms, and may suspend accounts involved in repeated abuse. Community flagging can lead to automatic hiding when report thresholds are met.
Accounts
Some actions (for example upvoting or flagging) require sign-in via an OAuth provider. You are responsible for activity under your account. Officer and admin roles are assigned only by database administrators; claiming those roles yourself is not permitted.
Public content
Issue reports you submit are public by default, including location, description, and any attached photo. Do not include private phone numbers, ID numbers, or other sensitive personal data in public fields. See the Privacy policy for how identity is kept off the public map.
Maps and third-party data
Map tiles and place names rely on OpenStreetMap and related services. Geocoding is subject to those providers’ usage policies. OpenNairobi does not guarantee that every place label or boundary is complete or current.
No warranty
The service is provided “as is.” We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability, that every report will receive a county response, or that map data is error-free. Emergency situations should be reported through official emergency channels, not only through OpenNairobi.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, contributors and operators of OpenNairobi are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from use of the map or reliance on issue status. The software is MIT-licensed; see the project LICENSE for copyright terms on the code.
Changes
We may update these terms as features and governance needs change. The “Last updated” date will reflect revisions. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
